There’s so much confusion over web hosting but i’ll try to keep it simple. You will need a domain name and web hosting. You can get free or paid hosting services then you will have to upload your website to the control panel for your hosting, but you will still not be able to see your website until you have purchased a domain name or acquired a free one, and even then you will need to point that name at the servers of your host.
So steps to take are:
Get a domain name make a note of the log in details for the site you purchased the name from.
Get web hosting, make a note of your log in details.
In your web hosting control panel, create the domain name you registered, and make a note of the nameservers to use, i.e ns1.yourhost.com and ns2.yourhost.com.
Log into your domain name providers control panel and enter the nameservers, then wait for a few hours or sometimes up to 72 hours for the domain name servers to propogate the www.
Then all you need is a web site to upload.
